Tragic Origin Stories
Any good hero or villain needs an origin story, but some are more scarring than others. Let's celebrate the trauma.
Thanks to everyone who braved the humidity and made it out to the July session. It was great seeing the regulars as well as the new/newer folks.
Despite getting derailed several times, we managed to pick a theme in the end: Tragic Origin Stories.
If you’re wondering what that means, think about Two-Face in the Batman stories: how he was burned and disfigured, and how that led to his origin story. Or even people who don’t end up being bad guys, like Daredevil, or anyone with a more traumatic origin story — something painful or that caused a lot of personal anguish. That’s the kind of thing we’re thinking about.
Obviously, there are many classic examples in superhero stories, so those are perfectly viable options. But it could also be something as simple as someone dying and their soul being transported into another world, which is a common trope in Isekai-type books. Any of those types of stories would certainly qualify.
And, obviously, if there are any stories that you think fit the bill, that’s perfectly fine. I’ll provide a few recommendations as usual, but if you find any others over the next couple of weeks, feel free to add them to the chat thread. Join the Archive, and make your voice heard.
